Pressman answered with a competing version of its own. Northwestern Mail Box produced American checkers and Ante Up Rummy editions, including compartments to store the marbles. Companies later added another game on the back, usually American checkers. The German game SternHalma, produced by Ravensburger, was founded on Dr. George Howard Monks, a thoracic surgeon at Harvard Medical School, created his game, Halma, based on Hoppity. Hoppity, an English game made in 1854, was an early predecessor of Chinese Checkers.
